Colgate faculty member Beth Parks, Professor of Physics, together with colleagues Silver Onyango of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda) and Crystal North (MGH/Harvard), have received an award for $7,120 for their project "Sensors for Enabling Personal Behavior Changes to Reduce Air Pollution Exposure in Uganda." This project aims to reduce harm caused by high particulate levels from cooking over wood fires. It will support the development of low-cost airborne particulate sensors with easily interpreted displays to inform families about times when the air quality is lowest in their kitchens and empower them to make decisions that will improve their health.
