Dr. Amir Manzour received his PhD degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Georgia in 2014. With a background in electrical engineering, his passion has been conducting interdisciplinary research in life sciences. His PhD thesis has contributed to bridging the gap between the two fields of Information Theory and RNA alternative structure prediction. After earning his PhD, he was continued research in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), initially as a post-doctorate fellow in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and subsequently as a research fellow in the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). His current research areas include bacterial riboswitches, viral RNAs such as HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, as well as understanding function of RNA-binding Proteins in Eukaryotes. He is. currently working on application of geometric deep learning in prediction and design of biomolecule structures.
