Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What are the office hours?
Regular hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Summer hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
How do I obtain an official copy of my transcript?
Please visit the transcript request page for information about ordering transcripts.
Can I get an unofficial copy of my transcript?
Unofficial copies of transcripts are only available to currently matriculated students. Students may present their Colgate ID at the registrar's office to request an unofficial transcript, or requests may be faxed or mailed. In the case of faxed or mailed requests, the information required is the same as that required for official transcripts (see above). In addition, current students have access to their unofficial transcripts through Banner Self-Service. Once a student has graduated from or left Colgate, a transcript can only be obtained in official format.
How can I obtain a copy of my diploma?

How can I change my address?
Moved? Please tell us! Our office is the repository for address and phone numbers of current students and their parents. (Alumni should contact the alumni relations office.) Students can update their personal contact information (home address, phone numbers, etc.) on the portal. Parents please send an email to the registrar's office (registrar@colgate.edu) with the updated contact information (e.g., mailing address, cell/home phone numbers, email addresses). Please note that parent addresses are not automatically changed when student address changes are processed. Please be sure to indicate which family members are included in the address change.
How can I request verification of enrollment?

Where can I find the dates for....?
Calendars have been approved for the next several semesters. These may be found at the calendars and schedules page and include dates for breaks, course registration, Commencement, etc.
When are my final examinations?
The examination schedule is published on the registrar's web page during the first month of a given semester and may be found at the exam schedule page.

Registration

What courses are being offered next semester?
Check the course offerings for the most up-to-date course listings.
How will I register for courses?
Returning students are required to seek registration advising from their academic adviser. During the advising session, the adviser will provide each student with a registration PIN that is required to register for classes online. For detailed instructions about registration, please visit our Registration Information page.

What if I am on a Colgate study group during registration?
Students who are on a Colgate study group will seek advising and receive their PIN from the study group director. All pertinent information, with the exception of the PIN, can be found online at the registration information page. Students may register themselves online but should note that time differences can make Internet access a challenge. The registrar's office staff will register students who are off campus for the semester if they submit their selections prior to the day that registration begins. Check your Colgate e-mail account approximately two weeks prior to registration for more detailed information about sending in selections and registration procedures while off-campus.
What if I am studying off campus through a non-Colgate program?
Registration information (including PINs) will be e-mailed to the student's Colgate e-mail address approximately two weeks prior to registration. All registration information, with the exception of the PIN, can also be obtained online at the registration information page. Students may register themselves online but should note that registration times are based on Eastern Time. The registrar's office staff will register students who are off campus for the semester if they submit their selections prior to the day that registration begins. Check your Colgate e-mail account approximately two weeks prior to registration for more detailed information about sending in selections and registration procedures while off-campus.
