In addition to her role as conductor of the Colgate University Orchestra, Marietta Cheng is conductor laureate of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, one of America's outstanding professional symphony orchestras

Previously, she was conductor of the Corning Philharmonic, and she also has appeared as guest conductor of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and appears regularly as guest conductor of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic.

Cheng was interviewed for a story about prominent women conductors for a story on CNN, and she has written many articles about women in music, one of which appeared on the opinion page of The New York Times.
