The Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS) oversees programs that serve students who have demonstrated intellect, creativity, and fortitude in the face of substantial social, economic and educational odds.
In supporting students who have been admitted to Colgate University through OUS, the program aims to tap their potential for scholarly excellence and leadership in the tradition of the liberal arts.
OUS also oversees Colgate's participating in the New York State's Higher Education Program (HEOP). HEOP is open to residents of New York State who meet the economic guidelines set by the State Education department at the same time of admission.
The main objective of OUS is to enable students to thrive at the college by easing the transition from high school through an intensive, five-week, residential summer program matched with continued support services and programming throughout their academic tenure at Colgate. Students are provided with a home base and a stable source of support through peer, faculty, and administrative resources. OUS has been providing support to Colgate students since 1967. More than 91 percent of OUS students complete their Colgate degrees.
The office provides students ongoing support services in a variety of ways including:
- Academic advising
- Study skills and reading assistance
- Tutoring (peer and professional)
- Mentoring (faculty-peer)
- Financial aid counseling
The Office of Undergraduate Studies is the umbrella organization that sponsors the Higher Education Opportunities Program (HEOP) and summer program.
Who can participate?
The Office of Admission determines OUS eligibility at the point of admission. It is not necessary to submit a separate application.
