As director of career services, Michael guides his team in providing students with direct, informed access to Colgate’s alumni and parent community while amplifying the ongoing focus on student development and personal reflection.

Before coming to Colgate in 2012, Mike was director of Career Services at Wesleyan University, worked in career services at Brown University and the University of Rhode Island, and held a variety of student affairs positions at the University of Rhode Island, the California State University, Fresno, and the University of New Hampshire. Mike is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a BS in gerontology and an MS in human development, counseling, and family studies. His career has encompassed a few twists and turns including: training in clinical hypnosis; spinal cord injury rehabilitation; and singing backup for Mr. Kenny Rogers.

Teresa draws from over 10 years of experience involving positions in career services at Dartmouth College and Indiana University prior to joining the senior leadership team in Colgate’s Center for Career Services.

In addition to her position at Colgate, she currently serves as the co-chair of the benchmarking and assessment task force for the Liberal Arts Career NetWORK, a consortium of 35 selective liberal arts colleges. Teresa’s research interests include millennial generation career decision making, translating liberal arts into the world of work, career development for student-athletes, and career development with underrepresented populations.

She holds a BA from Colby College in Spanish and human development and an MS in higher education administration from Indiana University. Teresa, her husband Patrick, and their two children are avid outdoor enthusiasts and diehard members of the Red Sox and Raider nations.

Vera began her career at Colgate University in 2013. By leading the career advising team, she provides the primary vision for the advising and program development component of the Center for Career Services.

Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, a study abroad experience at Clemson University led her to the University of Mississippi, where she pursued advanced degrees in counseling and higher education. After becoming a licensed professional counselor in Mississippi, Vera served as a career planning specialist and adjunct professor at the same institution. Vera is passionate about empowering others to become the most extraordinary version of themselves— something she accomplishes through blogging and other creative ventures. Her husband, David Chapman, currently serves as the head coach of the Colgate rugby football club. They welcomed their first child, Grayson, in October 2013.

Kelly Brant began working with Career Services in December 2013. Kelly was able to gain career development experience as a career advisor and program assistant at Binghamton University before joining Colgate. As a career advisor at Colgate, her liaison areas include: the common good, non-profit, legal and government sectors. Kelly is also the designated pre-law advisor.

Kelly earned her BA in Sociology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her MS in Student Affairs Administration from SUNY Binghamton. As an upstate native, she enjoys visiting the surrounding Finger Lakes and spending time with her cavapoo, Tux.

Laura joined the Colgate University career advisor team in July of 2015. She works primarily with students in business, finance and consulting, and as a liaison to students in the LGBTQ community as well as student athletes.

Laura comes to Colgate from Defiance College, OH, where she served in a variety of roles including Director of Career Development, Admissions Counselor, and adjunct professor in the department of natural sciences. Prior to working at Defiance College, she gained extensive experience in collegiate athletics, serving six years as a track & field and cross country coach. Laura is joined in Hamilton by her husband, John Hartpence, who is a member of the track & field and cross country staff at Hamilton College, and their daughter, Lillian.

Danielle earned her BA in English from Le Moyne College and her MA in English from SUNY Oswego. Naturally, reading is one of her favorite activities. However, she also enjoys the occasional mountain climb with her husband, Brian, and takes pride in being Lake Placid’s most frequent visitor.

Before working at Colgate, David and his wife Darcie ’98 lived in the greater Washington DC area where he worked in sales. A native of Hamilton, David graduated from Hamilton Central School in 1994. In 1998, he graduated with a BA degree from St. Michael’s College. A former student-athlete, David enjoys following the Raiders and getting to know Colgate's student-athletes on and off the field, rink, or court.

James joined Colgate Career Services in September 2014 as a Career Advisor with a focus on the STEM disciplines. Prior to his arrival at Colgate James was employed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he served as an Associate Director and Lecturer in the Archer Center for Student Leadership Development.

James earned an Ed.M. degree in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Student Affairs Administration from the University at Buffalo and a BA in History from the State University of New York, College at Geneseo. James brings to Colgate more than ten years of experience working with college students in a variety of capacities including, leadership education, curriculum design and assessment, community development, and one-on-one coaching. He enjoys helping students bridge their interests and passions with their professional goals to find a sense of fulfillment and success.

Originally from the Finger Lakes region of New York State, James resides in Syracuse and is excited to enjoy the diverse array of outdoor recreational activities that Central New York has to offer.

Sharon joined the Center for Career Services team as Associate Director of Employer Relations in July 2014. In her role, Sharon leads the development of entry-level and internship opportunities by building strategic and robust partnerships with employers, alumni and parents. Prior to joining Colgate, Sharon served in a variety of outreach roles for Miami University, Indiana University and The Johns Hopkins University. Sharon is a graduate of Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and holds a Master of Science in Business from The John Hopkins University. A fun fact not found on Sharon’s resume: she was lead singer/guitar for the acoustic rock band “The Flaming Red Hens.”

Shauna came to Colgate in 2012 as a career advisor. She is currently transitioning to the career services employer relations team where she will serve as the internship coordinator. In her new role, Shauna will oversee the programs of summer funding, internship credit, Summer on the Cuyahoga, Day in the Life, and also will connect with alumni and employers to cultivate new internship opportunities for Colgate students.

Before coming to Colgate, Shauna served as assistant director of the Career Center at Colby College and assistant director of admissions at Western New England College. Shauna earned a BA from Hamilton College and an MS in higher education administration from Syracuse University. Shauna grew up in Clinton, N.Y. and is thrilled to return to Central New York with her significant other and their two Newfoundland dogs.

Hi, my name is Amanda Comai and I'm a senior from Charlotte, VT, majoring in Geography and minoring in Biology. During the Spring 2014 semester, I studied abroad in Durban, South Africa and spent a month doing a research project on community health there. This past summer, I experienced public health from a different angle, working as a research assistant at a local hospital, and an intern for 2 Vermont based non-profit organizations focused on nutrition and women's health . On campus, I am involved in Club Soccer, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Utica Refugee Tutoring, and the Geography Honor Society. I also love to ski, hike and do anything outdoors, and hope to pursue a career in healthcare when I graduate this spring!

During the fall of 2014, I studied abroad in Istanbul, Turkey where I lived with a host family and learned a lot about Turkish language and culture. Other than working for Career Services, I am the PR chair for the Model UN, treasurer for the Global Health Initiative, a tour guide, and am in Tri Delta. Last summer I was an intern for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in D.C. and pulled double duty as a hostess at a restaurant at night and on the weekends.
