40th Anniversary of Women’s Varsity Athletics

Forty years ago, Colgate women began defending the university’s athletic tradition. At Reunion 2013, we’re paying tribute to the blood, sweat, and tears they shed in pursuit of success.

Weekend Highlights

We are excited to welcome the 40th anniversary of women's varsity athletics back to campus! Alumni and guests must register for a Reunion package to participate in the anniversary activities. Housing is available on campus.

We want to welcome back as many of your former teammates as possible. Stay tuned here for full details regarding this special celebration.  Below are several weekend highlights.
  • Reunion College Program. Featuring head women’s soccer coach Kathy Brawn and head women’s field hockey coach and assistant athletic director Cathy Foto. Their Reunion College session, entitled 40 Years of Women's Athletics at Colgate: Then and Now, will reflect on the progress of the Colgate women's athletic program from its inception in 1972, through the current academic year. Take a look back at where the program started and how it has progressed over the last 40 years. Kathy and Cathy will share with you some of their favorite athletic memories from their combined 46 seasons of coaching and watching Colgate's female athletes compete.

  • Facility Tour. Take a tour with the current administration to see all of the changes in Huntington Gym, Reid Athletic Center, and Sanford Field House. Receive a behind-the-scenes look at the equipment room, training room, the Trudy Fitness Center, varsity weight room, and more.

  • 5K/1-mile Fun Run. Each year, the Alumni Relations staff works with Arthur McKinnon, men’s track and field/cross country coach, to organize a 5K/1-mile fun run on Saturday morning of Reunion weekend. This is usually a leisurely jog through the beautiful trails of Colgate’s campus — that’s about to change. What’s the harm in a little friendly competition? This year, we’re encouraging female athletes from all sports to participate in the run. Whoever finishes first wins a set of Colgate Grays, and, more important, bragging rights for the rest of the weekend!

  • Saturday Evening Banquet. We’ll be hosting a cocktail hour and banquet for all former female athletes on Saturday evening of Reunion weekend. Athletic staff (coaches and administrators) and advisers are invited to join in on the celebration and Colgate’s first female athletic director and former Colgate standout, Vicky Chun ’91, MA ’94, will be addressing the group. Vicky is only one of 30 female athletic directors at the Division I level, and one of only nine minorities.
