For Counselors

SUCH counselor tour
Each Spring, Colgate takes part in a counselor tour with Skidmore, Union, and Hamilton. We would love to host you at our institution through this tour. For more information, please visit the SUCH Counselor Tour website.
Overseas counselor tour
Frequently, Colgate and a number of other upstate New York schools host counselors from international schools to see our campuses following the OACAC conference. To find out more information regarding this opportunity, please visit the OACAC website.

For Students

Multicultural open house
Colgate's Multicultural Open House is a university tradition and a special opportunity to experience campus life. We encourage students with an interest in Colgate to attend the program. For many prospective students, the open house provides a greater understanding of the Colgate experience. Participants will meet current students, faculty, and staff, all while participating in activities sponsored by multicultural student organizations. While on campus, students will attend classes and take a tour.
Regular visitor schedule
Colgate encourages each prospective applicant to arrange a visit to the campus. Prospective students may choose to explore Colgate in a number of different ways.

Schedule an informational interview. Non-evaluative interviews are offered from May of a student’s junior year through December of a student’s senior year. The interview is a time to speak with an admission officer or current student about Colgate academics and student life, as well as their own high school experience. This one-on-one conversation is a great opportunity to see if Colgate could be the right fit. The student should call the Office of Admission at 315-228-7401 at least two weeks in advance to arrange an appointment.

Group information sessions are available weekdays throughout the year and on many Saturdays. Registration, while not required, is available online.

Join a campus tour. Visitors are welcome at any time; registration for a campus tour, while not required, is available online. If tour guides are not available, the Colgate Self-Guided Walking Tour brochure is available.

Saturdays@Colgate. On Saturdays from mid-September to early December and during March and April, prospective students and their families can get an in-depth look at academic and campus life at Colgate. Ideal for first-time visitors, Saturdays@Colgate offer an hour-long information session, led by an admission officer who is joined by a faculty member and a Colgate student. A student-led campus tour follows the program.

Virtual tour. Not able to visit campus? Take our virtual tour for a look inside academic buildings, residence halls, and the university's history. Check out some of our beautiful vistas, too.

Visiting classes. Faculty welcome student visitors to most classes, as long as there are spaces available and no examinations are planned. Class schedules are available in the Office of Admission upon arrival to campus. Classes meet weekdays for either 50 or 75 minutes; there are no Saturday classes. The widest selection of classes is available in the mornings.

Students can stay overnight through the overnight host program.
Secondary school seniors and prospective transfer and visiting students can stay overnight with student hosts. Visits during the week are most productive, allowing time for visiting classes, attending activities, meeting with faculty, and talking with Colgate students. The host program is offered Sundays through Thursdays from mid- September to mid-November and from early February to early March. Stays are limited to one night.
Group visits
We welcome groups to campus. Please use our group visit request form to schedule your visit. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Accepted student events
If your student has been accepted to Colgate, we have a number of different options to learn more about Colgate before he or she makes a final decision. While these are formalized programs, we are always willing to work with students in any way that they need to—so encourage them to contact us if they have any questions at all.

Experience Colgate
Experience Colgate is a day visit program for accepted students that is offered on weekdays throughout the month of April. Perfect for a first-time visit to campus or a more personalized visit experience, students attend class and spend time with current Colgate students. Parents have the option of attending our morning information session and tour or they can take advantage of drop-in hours at the Office of Financial Aid.

April Visit Days
The April Visit Days programs are a chance for accepted students to learn more about the Colgate experience. Perfect for first-time or repeat visitors, you will be able to meet our students, faculty, and administrators, learn about academic offerings and off-campus study, and experience our diverse cultural and special interest organizations.

Overnight Visits
Current students host accepted students on campus during overnight visits. Students can attend a class, participate in activities, eat in the dining hall, and meet with faculty. Accepted students have the opportunity for an overnight visit during the month of April on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students should call the Office of Admission at least five days in advance of their preferred day to reserve a spot.

Congratulatory Receptions
Colgate hosts congratulatory receptions in many locations for accepted students and their families. Congratulatory receptions allow accepted students to hear from alumni and meet additional members of the Colgate community.
