Early Decision

We offer the Early Decision I and II options for candidates who have identified Colgate as their first choice. Both options are binding, which means the student agrees to withdraw all other applications and attend Colgate if admitted.

Early Decision I

  • Applications must be submitted by November 15, 2013
  • Decisions will be sent on Friday, December 13, 2013. Applicants with domestic addresses will have their decisions sent via U.S. postal mail or a courier delivery service. Applicants with non-U.S. mailing addresses will have their decisions sent via a global courier delivery service or e-mail.

Early Decision II

  • Applications must be submitted by January 15, or regular decision candidates may change their application to ED II by submitting the Early Decision Agreement Form no later than March 1, 2014
  • Decisions are made within four weeks of completion of the application

Required Materials from Applicant

  • Common Application, including the personal statement and the Colgate University writing supplement:
    "In 150-200 words, please tell us what inspired you to apply for admission to Colgate University?"

  • Early Decision agreement form
    Signed by student, parent or guardian, and counselor

  • Official standardized testing scores: SAT Reasoning Test or ACT Assessment
    All testing must be completed by November of the senior year for ED I and December for ED II. Students must have testing results submitted directly to Colgate from the testing agency. Alternatively, testing results reported on an official transcript will be accepted. SAT or ACT writing sections are not evaluated.

  • Non-refundable $60 application fee
    The application fee is waived for non-U.S. citizens. Additionally, Colgate accepts official fee waivers from the College Board, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and Expanding College Opportunities.

Required Materials from Guidance Counselor or School Official

  • School report

  • Guidance counselor recommendation

  • Two teacher recommendations from 10th, 11th, or 12th grade teachers

  • Official high school transcript
    An official high school transcript will display courses and grades for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.

  • Official standardized testing scores: SAT Reasoning Test or ACT Assessment
    All testing must be completed by November of the senior year for ED I and December for ED II. Students must have testing results submitted directly to Colgate from the testing agency.   • Mid-Year report, including at least first quarter or first trimester senior grades
  • Due as soon as possible

Financial Aid

If applying for financial aid, applicants must submit the CSS / Financial Aid PROFILE online by:
  • November 15, 2013 for ED I
  • January 15, 2014 for ED II
