Off-Campus Study Costs and Financial Aid

Approved Programs/Portable Aid Policy

In spring 2011, the faculty adopted an Approved Programs/Portable Aid policy for the Class of 2016 and beyond.  Beginning with the 2014-15 academic year, you will be able to choose from a list of vetted and approved outside programs in addition to the study groups directed by Colgate faculty. All students who study off-campus will pay Colgate tuition and financial aid will be portable to these outside programs.

This new tuition and financial aid structure make off-campus study more accessible to all students regardless of financial means and helps to ensure that outside programs meet our high standards for academic rigor and overall quality. READ MORE

Financial Aid

If you receive financial aid and grants from Colgate, you may receive additional assistance for one Colgate-sponsored off-campus study group and one Colgate-sponsored extended study program.  Currently, with the exception of the Portable Aid Initiative, Colgate grants can not be applied to outside programs.

Outside scholarships may be available to help finance your off-campus study goals. We encourage you to speak with a study abroad adviser to learn more about the various external funding options available.

Any questions about financial aid can be directed to the off-campus study office and the financial aid office.

Administrative Fees

Students who enroll in a Colgate study group are not subject to any administrative fees. However, if you choose to pursue a non-Colgate off-campus study program, you must apply for an academic leave of absence (ALOA) for the semester you will spend off campus. If approved for an ALOA, you will be charged a $500 administrative fee by Colgate. Learn more about the procedures for enrolling in a non-Colgate program.
